Ammolite Jewelry
from Korite International
Ammolite is Canada's Gemstone. Extremely rare and beautiful, Ammolite's iridescent colours glow with the beauty of the rainbow.
Millions of years of tectonic pressure created this beautiful gem from the fossilized remains of the ammonite shell.
A glittering addition to any jewelry collection, Ammolite's luminous qualities rival the famous black opal for colour and fire.
The Heartwood is pleased to offer these exclusive designs from Korite International.

- Millions of years in the making
- Ammolite is formed from the mineralized remains of an upper Cretaceous fossil called the Ammonite Placenticeras. These hard shelled squid-like marine animals became extinct 65 million years ago.
- The gemstone material is formed from the compacted remains of the shell which was exposed to eons of elemental movement, mineralization, intense heat and pressure.
- Ammolite was granted official gemstone status in 1981 by CIBJO International Commission of Coloured Gemstones.
- Ammolite is graded according to color and brilliance.
- There are four grades of ammolite:
- AA: Highest grade displaying three or more brilliant sharp colours, also considered to be collection grade. Found most often in one of a kind designer pieces.
- A: One or more distinct colours or play of colours.
- A– Standard Grade: Colors are slightly less distinct and may show directional color.
- B: Faint, less distinct color.
